AGM 2024 Minutes – Yankalilla District Residents Association

What a fantastic community we have ! Such a great turnout to our AGM at The Normanville Hotel.
A very big thanks to our wonderful speakers, Cindy Whittlesea updating us on the Waste survey, Wayne Gibbs giving us an update on the Bungala Friends of Bungala River project, Lorraine from Friends of the Yank / Normie Dog Park. And finally a very big thank you to our Guest Speaker Kylie Weymouth, Manager of Strategic Development who advises both DCY and Alexandrina Council on all things planning. A huge amount is happening in this space and Kylie gave us a lot to think about.

• We are required to have 6 meetings per year and have had 4 this year
Our next meetings to focus on:
• organising major community events like Q&A with local politicians
• contact Yankalilla Council to request their agenda be available one business week before their meetings (currently available on the Friday night prior to Tuesday’s meeting)
• Members to read monthly council agenda/minutes and try to attend meetings
• Research bus services and fare costs in the district – currently aware of Sealink, but there is a mention of possibly two other services, one from Cape Jervis to Adelaide return and one from Yankalilla to Victor Harbor return

The Greater Adelaide Regional Plan is up for consultation later this year – state-wide planning can be accessed online via the PlanSA website, please see the link below. This consultation will influence the future planning of the Yankalilla District and once passed, will be referred to for any future development with very little flexibility if a development application meets the guidelines set out in this plan. Therefore, it is imperative to have your say during the consultation period, at the policy level, as there will be little room for amendments once any development application is submitted.

President’s report AGM 23/2/24

Hello, I’m Caroline Weatherstone President of the Yankalilla District Resident’s Association and I welcome you all to our AGM, will you please turn all mobile phones to silent.
We acknowledge the 3 major clans that laid claim to this land we now call the Fleurieu – the Kaurna, Ramindjeri, and Ngarrindjeri people. We pay our respects to elders past and present, we respect their spiritual beliefs and connection to this land and we acknowledge the important role that First Nations people continue to play within our shared community.

President’s report
• My thanks go to my wonderful supportive committee: Jane Power, Ginny Frayne, Lauren Davies, Richard Fairweather and George Reeves. Our thanks go to Rob Butler and all staff at the Normanville Hotel for their continued support for which we are most grateful. All current committee members are standing down and we will be calling for nominations. There have been suggestions that we need younger people to stand on the committee, which we quite agree with, however, if there are no nominations the current committee is only prepared to stand for one more year. Our thanks go to our outgoing secretary Chris Stokes and Cindy Wittlesea who did a remarkable job with the waste survey.
• We were trying to arrange a Q&A with Leon Bignell, Rebekha Sharkie and Daryl Houston, however, although they were all willing unfortunately due to parliamentary timetables we were not able to do this, we will however try in this current year.

• Cindy Wittlesea will present the waste survey report
• Wayne Gibbs and Lyndall Booth will present the BungalaRiver Project
• Lorraine Felix will present the Dog Park project
• Our guest speaker Kylie Weymouth, Manager of Strategic Development
• We have had a lot of positive feedback this past year, we are, however only as strong as the strength of our membership, I urge you to join our association for the very low cost of $15 per year.
• One of our aims is to strengthen the relationship between the community and Council in regards to progress and initiatives. As an association, we have a stronger voice and can act on behalf of individuals as a conduit between them and the Council.
• The purpose of YDRA is to facilitate groups e.g. meetings, Bungala Action Group, meetings and forums
• I would like to clarify that as an organisation we are non-partisan
