I would like to open by extending my sincere thanks to my supportive committee members for their dedication and hard work throughout the past year. It has been a productive period for the association, marked by strong community engagement and the realisation of long-term projects.

Community Engagement & Events

Our primary focus this year was fostering open dialogue between residents and local leadership. We hosted several Community BBQs featuring our elected members. These events were exceptionally well-supported, and it was encouraging to see many of our elected members attend and engage directly with the YDRA. The feedback from these sessions has

been fantastic; they provided a vital platform for the community to voice their concerns in an informal and constructive setting.

The Dog Park Project

I am thrilled to report that the Dog Park finally received approval and construction is underway. This project is a shining case study of what a community can achieve through persistence and collaboration.

Design & Planning: Special thanks to Les Felix and Richard Fairweather for their meticulous design work.

Site Management: We owe a debt of gratitude to Les Felix for his exhaustive efforts in developing the Site Safety Plan and his hands-on work at the site.

Volunteers: This milestone would simply not have been possible without the tireless dedication of our volunteers.

Environmental Monitoring: Algae Bloom

Following the appearance of the algae bloom, we held an informative forum at the Normanville Pub, organized by Councillor Hatch. The session was an invaluable learning experience for all involved.

I would particularly like to thank Jane Power and the Fleurieu Environment Centre. They went above and beyond by acquiring a microscope and mastering its use to monitor the bloom. Having this local capability is a significant asset, allowing the community to stay informed about the status of the water in real-time.

Council Representation

I would like to acknowledge Keith and his ongoing efforts regarding council reform. I encourage the community to support his cause to reduce the number of councillors from nine down to seven. The Mayor is additional to these EMs. This initiative is crucial in ensuring our council remains efficient and truly listens to the concerns of its ratepayers.

Community Forum for State Elections

Thanks to Jane Power for organising this and it was held at the Library before the election. Representatives of Labor, One Nation, Liberals and Greens attended. A good number of community members attended, and many questions were raised and answered.

Closing

In closing, I would like to formally submit my report. Thank you all for your continued support of the YDRA and our community.

Any Other Business

· Concern over lack of public transport is heightened now due to the fuel crisis. Is it possible to extend the Metropolitan bus service to Myponga with a local bus service (EV) connecting? YDRA to write to our new local member to ask what plans are in place for transport options in our region.

· Through our Council rates, we pay a contribution to the Fleurieu Tourism Authority. Could a representative attend a YDRA meeting to explain how those funds are used to promote our district?

· There was general support for another “ Science in the Pub” night, although the venue may be different. Also a speaker to tell us more about the Carrickalinga Dark Sky Community would be of interest.

Meeting Closed: 7:17pm – Next meeting TBA
